• Approximately 18–24 months of hands-on experience working in a server environment is recommended.
• Prior certification or experience in foundational IT (e.g. CompTIA A+, Network+) or equivalent knowledge in hardware, OS, and networking concepts
• Comfort with command line and basic scripting, and familiarity with virtualization and hybrid configurations

• Install and configure operating systems (Windows, Linux/Unix) in physical and virtual environments
• Manage storage systems, disk arrays, file systems, and storage virtualization
• Configure and administer server roles and services (DNS, DHCP, directory, web, etc.)
• Apply security hardening, encryption, and access control best practices
• Design, implement, and test backup, high-availability, and disaster recovery strategies
• Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network, and virtualization failures
• Use scripting/automation to streamline server management tasks
• Interpret logs, monitor performance, troubleshoot in real-world scenarios
• Be fully prepared to sit for the CompTIA Server+ (SK0-005) exam
